Murlough Bay

Murlough Bay on the North Antrim Coast is a wonderfully remote and beautiful place. Roger Casement loved the place so much that he requested that his remains be laid to rest here. However, after his execution in London his body was interred in London before being exhumed and moved to Glasnevin cemetery in Dublin. The area is heavy with the signs of the salmon fishing industry and the lime stone mining which characterised the lives of the inhabitants of the North Antrim coast. Waling east towards Torr Head, you pass a lime kiln and the remains of a salmon fishery, while walking west towards Fair Head the remains of what may have been an old church (although it appears to me to be cottages) can be found at the foot of a path that leads back up to the top of the cliff. The more adventurous walker can press on around Fair Head and ascend the Grey Man’s Path.
